A new team is forming in Miami County, Kansas.  Organizers Jean Carder and Becky Berg of Louisburg, Kansas, have recruited a group of ladies age 50 and up who are interested in a little fun and fellowship on the basketball court.

“It’s just plain fun,” says Carder.  She got the idea to start a local Granny Basketball team after reading a story in the Kansas City Star (April 11) about a Border Showdown game between teams from Lawrence and Missouri. In short time, Carder and Berg drove to Lawrence on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Kansas Grayhawkers and Gray Tornadoes play – and wound up joining the fun. The duo were hooked.

“We had a blast,” Carder said.  “I have a slight competitive spirit, so it’s fun to get out on the court and have some laughs with the other ladies.”

Carder and Berg have been actively recruiting within the Louisburg community of 4,000 and surrounding areas.  The newly formed team is preparing for the 2017 season.

Five Tonics players participated in the KS-MO High Noon Show Up in Jefferson City, MO, on Oct. 15, 2016.
