A new team has formed just 30 minutes south of Kansas City. Organizers Jean Carder and Becky Berg of Louisburg, Kansas, have recruited a group of ladies age 50 and up who are interested in a little fun and fellowship on the basketball court.
“It’s just plain fun,” says Carder. She got the idea to start a local Granny Basketball team after reading a story in the Kansas City Star (April 11, 2016) about a Border Showdown game between teams from Lawrence and Missouri. In short time, Carder and Berg drove to Lawrence on a Sunday afternoon to watch the Kansas Grayhawkers and Gray Tornadoes play – and wound up joining the fun. The duo were hooked.
“We had a blast,” Carder said. “I have a slight competitive spirit, so it’s fun to get out on the court and have some laughs with the other ladies.”
Five Tonics players participated in the KS-MO High Noon Show Up in Jefferson City, MO, on Oct. 15, 2016.
